Are PVCu doors better than wood?

As uPVC doors are simpler to mass-produce, they’re also one of the least expensive options to manufacture. By contrast, wooden doors take more craftsmanship to create, making them a most costly option in comparison.

PVCu doors are a secure choice, equipped with the most recent lock designs to ensure the highest level of security. They’re easy to maintain and don’t require much of your time once they’ve been installed.

Can you replace PVCu door seals?

PVCu door seals play an important part in ensuring you have a weatherproof front door that’s also functional. Should you find the rubber strip has broken away from the door or fallen off completely, you should replace it as soon as possible. You can do this easily yourself. Simply order an appropriately fitting replacement, removing the editing seal before applying it. Take a look at the instructions beforehand; in order to make sure it works, open and close your door. You will know it’s working well if your door isn’t letting any draughts inside and opens and closes smoothly.

How much does a new PVCu door cost?

This depends on a variety of factors. If you choose to glaze your PVCu door this can drive up the cost and cottage-style and stable doors can also increase the price of your PVCu door.

Size is another factor that has an impact on price. If you’re looking to place a door in a space that’s too wide, you will need to invest in side panels; these will cost a bit more. Should you choose a door that’s taller than the typical size for a uPVC doors (6 foot 6) then you should also expect to pay more.

How long do PVCu doors last?

PVCu is a robust type of plastic, which means PVCu doors are resistant to degrading and can last up to 40 years, though this does depend on how they have been manufactured and maintained. We create our PVCu panel doors in our own state-of-the-art factory, so you can be sure they will last for years to come.

A straightforward way of prolonging the life of your PVCu doors is making sure you maintain them. Ensure you avoid damage to the door by oiling the hinges and making sure the handle and lock move seamlessly for your doors remain in good condition. PVCu doors are very simple to clean; just wipe them down if you see debris or dirt on them.

Is uPVC safe?

PVCu is a stiffer version of PVC, designed to be inflexible. It’s created by fixing vinyl polymer and chlorine, a combination which ensures the uPVC is strong, thermally efficient and practical.

PVCu adheres to UK safety guidelines; this means it’s been subjected to rigorous testing to guarantee maximum quality and safety. It’s important that you recycle PVCu doors correctly before replacing them as they aren’t able to be incinerated in the same way as a wooden door.

How long are uPVC doors guaranteed for?

Here at Britannia, our uPVC doors are guaranteed to last for 10 years. However, if correctly maintained they will last longer. We provide a guarantee with our doors, so you can be at ease about their level of security. They are expected to offer function and security for a minimum of 10 years.

Previously, woodgrain and foil colour finishes lasted less time, but CTG has worked on advancing their technology so that they are also covered under the same 10-year guarantee as our classic white-finish doors.
