What is a casement window?
Casement windows are secured to a frame using one or multiple hinges that sit to the side; this means they’re able to swing open. Choose either single or paired windows to be fitted within a single frame; because they’re hinged from the exterior, the window swings out, bringing in natural light and air.
Whilst the most popular way for a casement window to be is fixed via a side hinge, you have the option of them being top hung. This is a good option if you live in wet parts of the country, as top hung prevents the rain entering your property. If you’re looking to purchase a casement window for a basement area, bottom hung (hopper) windows are recommended. This is because they have handles that are easy to reach, whilst allowing enough ventilation.
What is the difference between a casement window and a picture window?
Casement windows can open hanks to a hinge that secures them to the window frame. An advantage of this is it allows ample fresh air to ventilate around the home. On the other hand, picture windows don’t open at all, but as they have no handles or frames to obstruct, they are better equipped to offer stunning panoramic views of your garden or outside space.
How much do casement windows cost?
The cost of casement windows is variable; there isn’t a fixed cost. It depends on the type of material used to make them, the time spent to fit them and how much work is required to install them. Here is an example to consider; if you were replacing an old casement window, this would be less expensive than if you wanted to make a larger window frame to install casement windows, because of the additional labour required.
The most cost-effective choice for window frames is uPVC, which are both strong and durable. Should you prefer a different finish like aluminium or timber, you would be looking at a higher cost. To obtain an accurate quote, contact us today; no obligation, just professional and friendly advice.
Are casement windows more energy efficient?
Casement windows have an airtight seal that’s created as a result of the window sash pressing against the frame when it closes. This means they will seal fully, stopping cold air from outdoors from entering your home, whilst also ensuring the warmth indoors doesn’t get out. Because they insulate your home, you will see your energy bills reduce in price and the room will feel warmer.
To achieve maximum energy efficiency, you can choose to double glaze, or even triple glaze your windows. Double or triple glazing means not only will you have a cheaper heating bill, but you’ll also be blocking out any noise from outside, which is ideal for those who live in busy areas.
How much do casement windows cost?
The prices of casement windows can vary greatly, meaning there is no single figure of cost. The price of a casement window depends on the material used, the time taken to fit the windows, and how much work needs to be done to fit the window. For example if you were simply replacing an old casement window then this would cost less than installing a new set of casement windows entirely, as this would require added labour.
UPVC casement windows are the cheapest materials to opt for. If you’d prefer a different finish, such as timber or aluminium, this is likely to cost more. For a more accurate measure of cost for casement windows, contact us for a free, no obligation quote to find out more.
Are casement windows safe?
Casement windows are designed with special hook-shaped locks that fit straight into the window frame, meaning they’re very challenging to break into from the outside. Even if an intruder were to attempt to force them open, casement windows are designed to make this particularly difficult. Their locking system also works to leverage the degree of security they offer.
Be safe in the knowledge that our windows have the extra benefit of being covered by the Official Police Security Initiative, . All windows covered by this initiative must adhere to high standards of security. Here at CTG, we take the safety of you and your family very seriously
Are casement windows worth it?
Casement windows are an excellent means of allowing natural air and light into your home, giving it a fresh feel. They’re excellent insulators, with compression seal technology that fits comfortably to the window sash; this makes a tight seal which stops cold air entering and warm air getting out. This ensures you save money on your energy costs.
