Bow windows are very similar, but the difference is that they have more window panes that allow the window to curve into a smart and stylish semicircle shape, instead of sitting angled against one another.

How do you hang curtains in a bay or bow window?
A bay window is an elegant addition to any home, though hanging curtains can be a little trickier than with other window designs. However, if you choose the correct curtains, it’s relatively straightforward. With three-section bay windows, bespoke-fitting curtain rods allow for the curtain to be pulled the whole way around. The gaps in the curtain hooks ensure they pass through the curtain rod fittings. It’s also possible to purchase malleable curtain rods, suited to bow windows that are arc-shaped.
How many sides does a bow window have?
The original bay window design encompasses three sides set away from the wall, traditionally in a trapezoid shape. Whilst one side is parallel to your home, the other two sit at a 45-degree angle to your wall. In the UK, this is the most popular style in 19th and 20th century homes. You also have the choice of box bay windows which sit away from the house in a rectangular shape, ideal for furnishing with armchairs or tables, without the obstruction of angled edges and sides. Whatever you decide on, we can make it happen.
Do bay and bow windows open?
Bay and bow windows accentuate the space and natural light in your home. The simpler design of the two, bay windows have three panels, and you can choose some (or all) of them to open. Bow windows, on the other hand, are slimmer and smaller, to give a curve-like look, so usually just a few panes open, rather than all of them. If you’d like to design bespoke bay or boy windows, get in touch today and we can accommodate how you would like them to open in your home
Do bay or bow windows increase home value?
Yes. Bay and bow style windows can add considerable value to your home, adding more natural light and creating more space. Use the extra space to create a cosy reading corner, storage area or play space for the kids; the world is your oyster! No matter which way the window is facing, the room is guaranteed to receive more light and offer a 180-degree view. Transform your living spaces with these timeless window styles that offer a beautiful aesthetic and monetary value to your home.
What is the difference between a bow and a bay window?
Bow and bay windows accentuate and space and light in your home differently. Bay windows generally have three individual windows that meet at angles protruding out beyond the room’s wall. Bow windows tend to comprise of four, six or more windows, creating a smooth and elegant curve. Both styles will add space and light to your inside spaces, though bow windows are (generally) wider than bay windows, to achieve a smooth curved look. Please don’t hesitate to ask us any questions along the way when deciding upon the style that best suits your home.
